What is Radon

An odorless gas that may cause cancer and is present in one in fifteen homes in the US. Radon is produced by the breakdown of uranium, rock soil and water that seeps from the underground into a home through cracks and holes in the foundation. More common in older homes, radon can still be present in new construction if radon-resistant features weren’t installed. If the level of radon in a home is above a certain amount, there are ways to reduce the level of gas. The EPA recommends that sellers get their home tested before putting it on the market, and buyers should always get the home they’re looking to buy tested for radon. Contact your state radon office to find out if the area where you’re searching has high levels of radon in homes.
