The sellers of the home, Gordon and Grace Gamm, shared their thoughts on the home to give us a better idea of the lifestyle it offers.

When asked what he loves best about the home, Gordon answers, “The changing beautiful views every day and every season, from swimmers on the beach, variety of birds on the lake, snow in the mountains, boats on the lake. The beauty of the lake framed by the mountains is the most beautiful view. We’ve seen fabulous views around the world, and this view is still our favorite.”

His wife Grace agrees, and shares that “when the ice breaks on the lake and collects to the shore and sun hits…it’s like a pile of diamonds.” She also enjoys watching the sky change colors and the lake reflecting the sky.

Gordon also explains that, “The interior architecture is unique and reflects all the features that I dreamed about when I planned by dream home, such as the one way mirror that reflects the lake and mountain view from the living room and kitchen.”

The outdoor views play such a role in the home. When guests would arrive for parties, the Gamms may have the curtains closed. After everyone arrived, Gordon had the “Ta Da” moment, where he opened the curtains to reveal the incredible view.

The home has many unique features. Gordon enjoys them, especially “The glass curved front of the home that provides a panorama for viewing the beautiful lake, the one-way mirror between the kitchen and the living room that maximizes viewing of the lake and mountains, the beautiful wood paneling on the walls and granite and maple floors, the maple cabinets.”

As Gordon says, the Gamms “haven’t remodeled anything because (the home) was built perfectly as a collaboration between myself and our famous architect, Harvey Hine.” The Baseline home reflects some of the features of the Gordon’s childhood home, which was featured in Architecture Digest.

The Gamms and Hine worked together to create the entrance on the rear of the home so as not to interfere with the majestic view. The foyer also takes advantage of the view. The kitchen is easily accessible from the garage so that unloading groceries is easy.

When Gordon picked out the finishing touches for the home, he gave a lot of thought to light fixtures and cabinetry. Things you might not even notice were carefully considered to ensure that they contributed to the beauty of the home.

The rooms have interesting shapes, with lots of windows and reflective surfaces to help bring the outside views into the home.

And, of course, the outside space of the home is also a significant feature. The patio on the north-side of the house is a relaxing oasis. “When you’re on the patio, you are nested in the hill surrounded by beautiful mature trees,” Grace says. “It’s where you want to be in the summer, listening to birds and the waterfall.”

“Big birds fly right by the window. It feels like a nature safari,” states Grace. The birds range from pelicans to bald eagles to osprey.

“Deer come by in the winter to drink from the pond, but they head to higher ground in the summer,” Grace explains how this helps with the gardening.

And she says, if you don’t want to be out in the elements, “You can sit on the balcony and experience the lake. Or, you can be lying in bed or the couch, and just watch the clouds, the weather, the birds.”

The home highlights the juxtaposition of nature’s elements with coziness and peacefulness. The vast views also add to this sensation–you can see all the way from Eldorado Springs Canyon to Golden while being in an intimate warm home.

There is plenty to do right from the Baseline home. The neighbors are close-knit, and the Gamms often visit them. Gordon says that they also, “Swim and picnic on the lake with friends. Walk in the park and in the neighborhood.”

Grace shares her thoughts about the neighborhood, “People are interested in connecting and being neighborly. There are families with both young children and grown adults.”

“The neighborhood is also special because people do have animals there. A couple of beautiful horse farms are on our short walk, some neighbors have chickens, alpacas…so it’s a nice rural feel, but close to urban attractions,” Grace explains about the neighborhood.

The home is on a private lake. Memberships are required, and there is a waitlist for memberships. But Grace points out that, “Neighbors can bring guests. People want a good neighborhood and enjoy each other’s company.”

In addition to the lake, there are plenty of nearby areas for walks.

“We enjoy walking around the block and into the park behind our home to see all our wonderful friendly neighbors. We enjoy several dog paths near the lake in front of our home where every neighbor with dogs has a big smile on their faces, such as Dry Creek, Bobolink, and Sombrero Marsh,” shares Gordon.

All of Boulder is just a quick drive from the home, with easy access to restaurants like the Cork, Chez Thuy, and Carelli’s. The Gamms also visit several closer gems, like Ozo Coffee and Efrain’s on Arapahoe, the Gondolier at Baseline and Foothills, and Reel Fish and Brewing Market at the corner of Arapahoe and 95th in Lafayette.

The Gamms will miss several things about living in the home, especially, “The wonderful dinner parties that we had regularly with Noble Prize winning scientists, three University Presidents, four Law School Deans and many other wonderful friends with engaging conversations,” says Gordon.

Grace explains that the home is “a fabulous party house.” She says that, “Friends love coming to the house for parties.” The couple turn on the waterfall feature to make an impressive entrance for guests.

The next owners are certainly purchasing a home with an interesting story and history. What a perfect spot for lovers of nature and entertaining. Interested in seeing if it is right for you? Call us at 303.402.6000 to schedule a private tour.
